Well, there is a NEW game in town when it comes to Facebook Marketing.

…And no, it’s NOT Facebook PPC.

A year has passed since the LAST big shift in Facebook marketing, and a lot of time has slipped by.

People are following other people with their strategies and techniques.  And as there is a tendency to happen after a big training webinar, things got saturated and people got getting tired of looking at the same stuff over and over again.

So we felt it was time to come up with some new strategies.

We’ve spent the last few weeks testing out some New Facebook strategies that are getting great results!

And I’m going to share them with you on Tuesday night!

Man…I had fun with Part 1 of the “Things You’re Doing On Facebook That Are Killing Your Business.”

I got up on my soapbox a little bit, but I also think it was a productive soapbox to be on.

I really hope that people take these tips to heart and mind, because as the title states, you can really kill your business if you don’t pick up your game and follow some really stupid simple rules.

Looking Back

Looking back at the comments I got in Part 1, “Not Replying to Messages or Comments” seemed to be a common point that a lot of people felt the same about, and admittedly, many also said they were slacking on and letting slip in their own Facebook marketing strategies.

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that we all get busy and we let answering messages and replying to comments slip to the back burner.

But as you know, this is the part of your FB profile that is absolutely necessary to build your brand and your relationship with potential leads.

I can’t emphasize that enough!

Onto The List for Part 2

(Click Here if you missed Part 1)

5. Facebook Games

LOL…I really don’t know what to say here other than these games are crap!

Farmville, Fishworld, Yoville, etc., etc.

If you want to be productive and build your business online, who in the world is going to take you serious if you’re asking someone to come and help you harvest your corn field?

Or those damn snowball fights that always show up in the winter time.

I swear, if I get “hit’ with a snowball this winter I’m deleting you from my account.

Seriously though…these are such suckers of your precious time.  Why are you focusing on how big your building your “virtual farm” instead of building your business to buy your own acreage out in the country to build your dream house?

6.  Tagging

Now, I wavered back and fourth on this one because I occasionally use tagging myself, but you need to use it wisely.

If you are tagging people in a video because you want to have them watch your business opportunity presentation video, well, good luck!

Or if you tag people in a note or update that they have NO part of and are in no way related to it, you might want to reconsider your game.

BUT…

If you create a post referring to a friend that wrote a blog post, or created an awesome video, that’s cool!  Way cool actually!  Tag away!

“Hey, check out this cool new post my friend, Yo Le,  just posted on his blog.  It’s about the 3 Reasons you should join a tribe.”  And then I would simply tag Yo in the note.

Or if you’re in a group pic from a live event, and you’re friends with others in the pic, feel free to tag them as well.  It shows a relationship and helps to brand you with them.

As a general rule, if you have friends in your Facebook network that are included in the video, picture, note, etc, feel free to tag them.

One more spot to use this is in a welcome video.

If you have a short 20 second welcome video where you welcome your new Facebook friends, feel free to tag them in that too.

7.  Facebook Groups

Facebook groups are a WISE marketing strategy to use within Facebook.

It’s a little like a Fanpage, but really not.

And in reality, a Facebook group is really another list to utilize like your auto-responder list.

With a Facebook group, you can blast one message out to your entire group with the press of a button.

You can also create “events” within your group and invite people to them from your group.

I personally use my group to provide blog and article marketing tips and strategies to my members, and help drive traffic to my blog my sending a message with a link to the blog post.

But, groups can easily be abused.

If you invite me to a group you created, it better live up to the purpose that you created if for and stated within the description of the group.

If you invite me to a group that talks about blog marketing, you better not use it to slam me with a business opportunity or product pitch.

I’ve Rambled Long Enough

There are plenty more issues to bring up that you may or may not be doing on Facebook that is killing your business.

But, I’m keeping these next two ideas for a later date because they are big enough that I’m going to create a specific post for each one.

But, I promise you that it will simplify your time on Facebook and help you to drive more traffic to your blog and websites.

Until then, I’m going to direct you back up to the top of the page and click the green Retweet and blue Facebook share button.  It’s a simple automated click that will take you about 5 seconds for each one.  Thank You ahead of time!

Leaving No Network Marketer Behind,

As I sit here writing this post about the things you’re doing on Facebook that are killing your business, I realized that I’d probably never really itemize a complete list.

It would be an unending task.

There are so many different things that a majority of people do on a daily or even hourly basis that are killing their image, brand, and therefore their business.

Some of them, they probably don’t even know you’re doing.

It’s just something that comes so natural to you, you just think it’s o.k. to do, so you keep doing it.

And no one’s taken the time to tell you it’s killing your image and brand.

That is…until now (wink, wink).

You know that Facebook is awesome!

And even though you can use it to market business opportunities, you have to do it very passively and rarely.

Facebook is about ongoing updates, recognition, networking, establishing trust, and most
importantly… BONDING.

Your #1 goal is for people to LIKE YOU.

1.  First Impressions

Think about it, when you first meet someone, what’s the first thing they see?

Your face right?

So if you’re on FACEbook, why are you hiding behind a company logo or cartoon character on your profile?

Do you really think someone is going to take you seriously with a picture of Tweetybird or Pac-man as a profile picture?

Might I suggest that you add an actual picture of you for your profile pic?

It doesn’t have to be a professional pic.  Just be natural and be you.

2.  Pitching People on Their Profile

This one really gets me – for a  few reasons.

There’s 2 parts to this:  1. When you first network with someone, and 2. After you’ve already networked with someone for an extended period of time.

It states “Amateur” and reeks of unprofessionalism.

If I get those messages on my profile, I warn the friend that I will not accept that activity on my profile, and if it happens again I will delete their profile from my list.  (fyi, I’ve only had to do this once so far…)

Perry Belcher put it best when he stated that people need to treat social networking like a dinner party.  When you go up to meet someone for the first time at a dinner party do you say, “Hi, My name’s Jeff, and I work for “MLM company X”, do you want to join me in my business?”

Hell no!

You simply build that relationship and get to know the person.  If you build that relationship with them, you gain their trust and respect.

So why aren’t you trying this in Facebook?

Instead try something witty or off the wall like, “Hey Cindy, glad to connect with ya here on Facebook.  Let me buy you a coffee!  Wait, no that only works in person.  Dang…let me check my notes on what to say here.”

I guarantee that will get you better responses than “Hi Cindy, glad to connect with you here on Facebook.  I’m looking forward to getting to know you.” blah blah blah…

Stand out from the crowd!

3.  Pitching Me on A Friend Invite

This is WORSE than #2.

If I get a friend request with a message in it pitching me on a business opp., I automatically decline that friendship.

If more people start doing that, I’m willing to bet that we start to see that activity cease.

Instead, leave a message saying, “Brian, simply wanted to connect with you here on FB ’cause you look awesome in your profile pic – meaning you seem like a real person.  Lets connect and see where this goes.”

Again, this will elicit a response.

4.  Not Replying to Messages or Comments

This is just dropping the ball and missing out on potential money.

And I’ll admit, I’m guilty of from time to time. But, I’m trying to do better.

See, when you look at Facebook, it’s all about networking.

So when you post a blog feed on your profile, and someone takes the time to comment on it, their network sees it.

When they go to see the full commentary, they’re expecting to see you involved in the commentary.

The more you’re involved and trusted for the content you’re producing, or replying to comments that people see on your profile, the more you’re trusted.

In a way, it’s like giving you a referral to their friend network, which means more eyes on you.

The same thing can be said of replying to messages.  Granted, their one on one.  But it’s still letting people know that you’re real.

My Brain Moved Too Fast

Apparently, I have  a  little to say on this topic, with some good ideas to help change the bad habits around.

So if you liked the “Things You’re Doing On Facebook That Are Killing Your Business – Part 1″, stay tuned for the next post on Part 2 where I break down some more ideas to help improve your Facebook strategies.

One thing you can do for me now is hit the little green “Retweet” and blue “Facebook Share” button at the top of this post.

Let your friends also know some things that might also be killing their business.  They’ll thank you for it in the long run!

How To Add A Pop Over Form To Your Blog

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On June - 15 - 2010

Last week I added a pop-over form to my blog site that is getting great results right now (7% conversion in a little under a week).

Since I added it, I’ve had people asking me how I got it on my site and if I paid for it to be custom made.

It’s an easy answer and it’s free!

Here’s a quick training video on how I did it so that you can add it to your blog in about 10 minutes as well.

What’s A “Pingback” and What Do You Do With Them?

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On June - 14 - 2010

When I started blogging, after I wrote a blog post I started getting these things called “Pingbacks.”

I remember thinking to myself, “what are pingbacks and what am I supposed to do with them?

(No, it’s not Sean Connery in “The Hunt For The Red October” saying “One ping, and one ping only!”)

So I kind of blew them off for a while.

Then I started promoting my blog posts into articles using the Unique Article Writer, and within hours of articles being submitted, I started getting pingbacks like crazy.

So I took it as a sign to start digging deeper to define a pingback for myself and my team.

What’s A Pingback?

I’m going to use an example of my blog and article writing.

I post something on my blog and submit it to the article sites.

The article site accepts my article that links to my blog post.  This automatically sends a pingback to my blog when both have pingback enabled sites.

My blog receives the pingback, then automatically goes to the article site to confirm that the pingback did come from my site.

So What Do you Do With Them?

After starting to receive this massive flow of pingbacks, I had to take a look at what to do with them.

So I posted this question to the source I typically go to when I have these sorts of questions: Better Networker forums.

In fact, here is the direct link to the forum post that I created:  What Do You Do With Pingbacks?

I’ll let you read  the information that I found inside of the forum post itself, but I will high-lite the most important part here.

This Is Why I Go To Better Networker When I Have A Question

Thanks to Kurt Henninger I was able to find my answer.  So make sure to drop by his site and give him some love as well.  This guy knows his SEO strategies!

Because of Kurt, I have been implementing a New 5-step strategy for dealing with pingbacks and working to get them indexed in the search engines for the last few weeks.

When you receive a Pingback from an article site or any other blog, simply take the web address of that specific article site and run it through these following steps:

1. Pingomatic – It’s part of the WordPress family.  All you do is submit the web address of the specific article you submitted and put it in the site, and click “Submit to Sites.”  It will submit that URL to 21 different services notifying them of your new posted article.

2. Digg, Delicious, Reddit, Mister Wong – Social Bookmarking sites.  We all know the power of these sites.

3. Ice Rocket – This is a free RSS builder.  What it does is set up an RSS feed specific to your article.

4. Traffic Mania RSS Bot – Take the RSS feed from Ice Rocket and submit it to this program.  It will submit the RSS feed you just created in Ice Rocket to the many different RSS directories.  There is a $19.95 per month membership for this.  It is a powerful tool if your are going to use this strategy, so judge if you’re going to use the tool (and yes, this is my affiliate link),

5. Google Blog Search – Simply submit that same RSS feed from Ice Rocket to Google Blog Search.

Honestly, That’s It

Really, there is nothing more to it.

Now you simply let the webcrawlers do their work and start indexing your articles that contain backlinks to your blog posts!

Can you say SEO power?

Well, There Is One More Thing…

Since I know that you found something unique and useful in this post and will likely help out others in trying to figure out what to do with their pingbacks, there are two little boxes at the top of this post – the Facebook Share and TweetME button.  Make sure to take 7 seconds and click each one for me.  I thank you in advance!

“WordPress.com Goes Down, Takes Millions of Blogs With It”

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On June - 10 - 2010

Ever have one of those moments where you tell someone to do something under the presumption that it COULD happen, but it never really does?

Or, at least you hope it doesn’t?

Like buy a fire-safe to store your valuables, just in case your house catches fire…

…or, back-up your digital photos on disc or external drive, just in case your computer is stolen by a Sasquatch…

…but thankfully, it never actually happens.

Here Is One That I Know I’ve Said At Least Once

Get a SELF HOSTED WordPress.org blog, because you never know if one of the free hosted ones on WordPress.com will ever go down.

(And yes, there is a difference in the .org and .com versions of WordPress)

Well, unfortunately, my warning has come true.

Earlier today ALL WordPress.com blogs, including VIP member blogs, crashed.

These are the ones that are hosted for FREE on WordPress.com

Here is a link to the story that I read:

http://mashable.com/2010/06/10/wordpress-com-goes-down-takes-thousands-of-blogs-with-it/

In All, Over 1,000,000 Blogs Were Shut Down

Now, if you were one of these users, I’m sure that your blood pressure increased to stroke status, seeing your blog nowhere to be found.

I can’t imagine the feeling of confusion and being ticked off at yourself knowing that you made a bad choice when you decided on going for the free hosting version.

I’m sorry…I’m a nurse, but I can’t prescribe you any blood pressure medications.

As bad as the addage is, you get for what you pay.

Sadly, The Story Doesn’t Get Any Better

At roughly 5:30pm PST, Twitter CEO, Matt Mullenweg stated: “WordPress.com blogs are back up. Founder/CEO Matt Mullenweg tweeted this: “The vast majority of blogs are back up, bringing up the rest over the next few minutes after we verify them.””

But then at around 6:30pm PST, the Twitter update Matt Mullenweg, stated: “WordPress.com and most of its blogs have gone back down, less than an hour after they were brought back online.

OUCH!

At the time I’m writing this post, 9:30pm PST, there is still not a more recent update on the free hosted blogs on WordPress.com.

Imagine If This Were Your Business Site

What if you’re part of this group of blogs that are still down, and you’re dependent on your WordPress blog for your business?

I know for me, my blog is open for business 24/7, 365 (…yes, sometimes 366).

But it’s obviously a self hosted WordPress.org site.

If WordPress goes down, my blog does not.

My Point Is This:

I don’t mean this to poke fun at those that chose to use the free version of hosting.

I have some very close friends that use the free version.

But I need to say this:

There are plenty of other reasons to have a self hosted WordPress blog besides what is currently going on with the free hosted ones.  I won’t get into that here.

If you are a business owner building your business online, you need to take steps now to ensure that your online presence is legit.

As we say in the medical field, “an ounce of prevention now is worth a pound of cure.”

Be sure to take the necessary steps now to ensure you online presence isn’t hacked, shut down, deleted, or removed permanently.

Your business and your brand may depend on it in the future.

This is a lesson being learned by close to 1,000,000 WordPress.com users tonight.

If you find this post worth your time to pass along to your network of friends, be sure to click the “Facebook Share” or “Retweet” buttons at the top of this page.

My 4 Step Formula to Blog & Article Success [Webinar Recording]

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On June - 7 - 2010

If you’ve been a member of my Mastermind team or a guest on our weekly mastermind marketing webinars, you’ll know that a few weeks ago I GAVE AWAY my Exact Step-byStep Formula for Blog & Article Marketing success.

It is a simple 15 piece checklist explaining everything I do from topic brainstorming, all the way down to keyword research, creating the post, and syndication.

But what I DIDN’T do was explain in detail what I actually do on each step, and more importantly, WHY I perform each step.

So I recently did a mastermind training webinar that explained in detail what I do on each step.

I broke things down into a Simple 4-step Process that is easy to understand and follow.

So in the next 45 minutes, you are going to find a detailed game plan explained to you here for the very first time.

If you’ve been looking for a Step-by-step guide to follow, this is it!

Here is that webinar recording now:
4 Step Formula to Blog & Article Success Video Recording

Now, you’re probably wondering why I’m giving this away for free.

My thought is, why not?

This business is all about helping one another out right?

Since I KNOW that you will get something from this, my thought is to pass it out, and give you a piece of me and what’s working.

Many on my personal team is using this strategy and finding early success with it, so why shouldn’t you?

All that I ask is that you pass it along to your friends also.

ALSO – up at the top of this post is a blue “Facebook Share” button and green “Retweet” button.  Simple click each one and let your friends on Facebook and Twitter know about it.

I appreciate the entire spread of fire on how this training is catching on.  And I have all of you to credit for it’s success.

Leaving No Network Marketer Behind,

P.S. – If you’re looking for more content heavy training resources that I’ve created, I think you might want to check out my “7-Day Attraction Marketing Blueprint” on the right of this blog page.

How To Convert Your Blog Traffic Into RESPONSIVE Leads

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On June - 3 - 2010

If you’re brand new to blog marketing, or even online marketing in general, there are Three things that you absolutely NEED to have a successful business online:

  1. Content To Attract Traffic
  2. Traffic, and lots of it.
  3. Ability To Convert Traffic Into Leads

If you’ve been in this industry for any time, I don’t need to tell you this – you know it already.

So, I’m Going To Assume Two Things:

One, you’ve got great content already attracting traffic.

And two, you’ve got great traffic volume (100 – 200 visitors per day or more) including familiar readers.

That’s The First Part of the Battle.

So now the question becomes, how do you monetize your blog traffic into responsive leads?

The Answer Is In The List

Without traffic, you have no leads.

That is why when someone comes to me and asks why they’re not growing in their online business, I have them take a look at their traffic.

You need traffic to get leads.

And more specifically, you need to be able to convert that blog traffic into leads to build your list.

When you have a list, you get in front of your prospects more often.

The more often they see your value to them, the more they know you, like you, and trust you.

And when people trust you, they buy from you.

“How Do You Build Your List?”

Like I said earlier, I’m going to assume that you’re already generating decent traffic to your blog.

So when it comes to your blog, the common answer is that you need a lead capture form, or squeeze page, to build your list.

You absolutely need this on your blog and your blog traffic needs to see and know about this form.

This is the way you capture qualified leads and build your list of subscribers.

The one purpose of a lead capture form is to convert your targeted blog traffic into responsive leads.

Here’s How I Make It Work:

When someone visits my blog, there are 4 spots that they will be notified of my lead capture form:

  1. My Welcome Video at the top of my blog.  I simply notify them of the form.
  2. Seeing the form itself on the right side of my blog.
  3. Within the post itself.  But this is indirect because what I really do is inform them of the form by leaving a compelling offer at the end of my blog post and direct them to the form on the right of my blog.
  4. My latest edition – the pop over lead capture form (this is converting the best).

In all three spots I ask them to enter their name, Email, and phone number into the form.

In exchange for their information, I provide them with something that is of higher value to them.

For you, it could be anything that someone would find important: a 7 -Day video training series, a free e-book, or an E-mail training series.  So long as it’s a topic that provides a solution to their problem.

And is compelling enough to get them to move to fill out the form and hit submit.

It’s Simple Math

The more traffic you get, the more leads you’ll get, the faster you build your list, and the more money you make. It’s that simple.

Here’s a picture of what I’m talking about:

Use These Rules To Help You Build A Compelling Offer:

Rule 1: Your offer has to be compelling!

It has to be an answer to a problem that your reader is having.  When you give a valuable solution to their problem, you are then seen as a value to their business.

Be creative and make sure to stir up a problem that exists for your readers to increase your opt in rates.

Rule 2: Your Compelling offer and Lead capture form should be good enough to do one of two things.  Either opt-in or not.

Don’t distract your readers by putting other information or links in this section.  You have one goal, and one goal only: convert targeted blog traffic into responsive leads.

Rule 3: Professional marketers track, compare, and test their marketing strategies.  So make sure that you have a way to tell if your compelling offer is attractive enough.

If you have 150 visitors on any day, and only 5 people opt-in to your form,  then you have a 3.3% conversion rate.  That is pretty low.  So you probably need to do some tweeking and test some different things in the offer.

Ideally you want a conversion rate of 15-20% or higher.

And if you really want some answers, send some of your friends and team to the offer to see what they think.  Would they opt in if they came across the offer?

Was This Compelling Enough For You?

Act now, and click the “Facebook Share” button and “Retweet” button at the top of the post. Only a few more remain. Operators, as well as your friends on Facebook and Twitter, are standing by. Thank you in advance!
