When I first started blogging, I thought those nice little blog comments that you got from folks were nothing more than just that – nice little comments.
I thought they were just a way for your reader to let you know what they thought of your blog and really nothing more. And frankly, I just thought it was a way for people to spam you with their websites by blasting your posts with their comments.
It wasn’t until about a month ago that I saw the FULL power and spectrum of why these sweet little comments were actually Powerful and Mighty beasts that you should be utilizing extensively in your blog marketing strategy.
And it’s not what you think either.
Some folks think that it’s just interacting with the people leaving comments on your blog posts. But that really only the tip of the iceberg.
But first, I want to take a step backward and look at the bigger picture than just simply showing you tactics on how to generate comments on your blog posts.
As internet network marketers, one of your goals is to get your blog in front of as many people as possible. That’s accomplished by generating traffic to your blog.
The more traffic your blog gets, the higher your ranking in Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. And in turn, the higher your ranking, the more traffic you get. (If you want to see how you’re ranking compared to the big boys, you can download the Free Alexa toolbar to your web browser here – http://www.alexa.com/toolbar. For example sake, at the time of writing this post, it has been 10 days since I started HEAVILY implementing these comment tactics. Over those 10 days, I have seen my Alexa ranking go up from #1,084,687 to #632,114 worldwide).
See the cycle here?
So, this is where the comments start to come into play.
Think about it this way. When someone stops by your site and leaves a comment on one of your posts, you then have a visitor to your site. It’s safe to say that the more people that leave comments = more traffic. It’s kind of a spring board effect that just starts to build on itself.
As this is happening, you will begin to see your site ranking increase. As your site ranking increases, so will your traffic from the search engines because the search engine sites like popularity. If a site is getting more web traffic, the web crawlers will notice that, and deem your site more attractive than the next guy who has a lower ranking.
Make sense? (If not, go out an do a Google search on the basics of Search Engine Optimization – SEO).
So, what can you do to start to drive comments to your blog posts and site?
What can you do to create that comment parade?
Here are some of the strategies that I use. They are not all inclusive. Nor am I taking credit for all of these tactics. I learned some of these from Jason Better from www.BetterNetworker.com, but the overall idea is that these are proven tactics to increase your traffic flow to your blog site and more specifically, should warrant you some rather sizeable amount of comments. Without a doubt, you should be using at last one of these tactics in your own blog marketing strategy:
- E-mail your list – This is my favorite. I started with this strategy first and it is the best way that I started creating simple and targeted traffic to my blog. This is one of the fastest ways to increase your comment flow. Simply e-mail your list everytime you post, and give only a snippet of what you’re teaching, and then end it with something like “To learn more about this strategy, go to my blog at www.LinusRuzicka.com to read the entire post.” OR do what I do in Step Two…
- ASK! Simply ask for comments. Who says that you can’t? There’s no rule against it. At the end of your post ask for your readers to comment on what you just posted. (wanna take it a step further? If you have the Onlywire or TweetMeMe plug-ins on your wordpress blog, ask them to Retweet or bookmark the post.)
- Leave A Question – Simply ask a specific question at the end of your post and ask them for an answer. You may be suprised at the questions you get.
- Reply To Your Comments – When someone stops by your blog and sees that you interact and correspond with your readers, they are more prone to leave comments themselves. If you reply to your comments, it will build trust with your readers and will often times get people responding back on more than one post.
- Thank You’s – This may sound silly or stupid even, but consider this. Your readers are spending time with you and posting comments instead of the many other things they could be doing. Why not thank them for commenting?
- Facebook It – This ties in with #1 above, except that you use the same strategy within your Facebook groups that you have been building. When I create a new post, I do just like in #1, except that I send a message to my Facebook group. And Use just a snipet to entice them to read it, and then the link to send them directly to the post.
So, there you have it. Those are the 6 tactics that I use or have used in the past to increase my comment flow to each blog post that I create.
Remember, the more you interact with your list, the more they trust you!
I hope that you learned something valuable and useful out of this post. This is not the end-all, be-all of stirring up comments on your blog. I’m sure that many of you have your own ideas of how you’re getting people to post comments on your blog.
If you have your own creative idea, leave me a comment here on this blog post. I’m sure that others will benefit from it as well.
If you like what you read, be sure to leave me a comment below. Even take the time to Retweet it. I thank you in advance!

Some Comments I’ve Received on BetterNetworker.com:
I use this strategy
I write articles, blog, and post comments on other blog amoung many other things in order to have link point back to my sites (articles, video, blogs,ect..) which gives me a higher ranking on Google and more traffic.

2 more strategies
Great post, Linus!
I have 2 more strategies that Better Networkers can use:
1) Copy and paste the comments you get from your articles on Better Networker to your original post on your blog.
This works on Facebook or other Social Media sites, as well.
When you post a link on Facebook, for example, copy and paste the comments you get on your wall to your blog posts.
2) Start a forum discussion on your blog post’s topic and use those as comments for your blog, too.
Well, there’s my 2 cents
Thanks again,
Derek

Great Article Linus. Your spot on with this info mate! I have noticed my ranking on Alexa climb just from increasing my efforts. It is all slowly coming together for me and my partners. Just simple comments like this, writing articles or even videos make a huge difference.

Carlos,
The Alexa toolbar was something that I kept overlooking and never downloaded. Then I finally added it, just to monitor it, along with my blog stats, so I can track my progress. So far, so good!
But really though, enough can’t be said about just sitting down, brain storming, and just thinking about how to get your blog posts out in front of others.

I can stand some marketing assistance, so I am replying and subscribing. I have a book coming out in Jan and I post about 6 blog posts a week on fitness. That’s something I’m rather well versed in after 45 years of it. But I know that without readers, I am a “noisy gong or a clanging cymbal”. If you have any ideas other than the good ones you’ve posted, I would be appreciative. and not adverse to sharing the profits (as your emails have been very good in the literal sense.) I’m tired of being poor and would really like to give my wife a vacation in Barbados.

Enjoyed reading your article Linus. Commenting on blogs is exactly where I am now in my marketing plan. I have spent a lot of time on the more technical stuff, building blogs, a website, squidoos, and understanding how to market online. Now I am ready to step it up a notch and find out what others are doing and becoming sociable.
Thanks for the tips.

I also love the way you entice me to go to your blog by whetting my appetite with a tantalisung snippet!
When you’re exchanging all those comments, of course, you’re also creating links that search engines like so much.
