So you’ve started a blog, you’re learning some SEO, learning some blog tactics, and already starting to generate some success.

But you know that there is others out there doing the same thing.  You also know that there are others competing for the same keywords and keyphrases that you are using.

So there has to be a way for you to step up and take a peek behind the curtain and see what they are doing and staying current with right?

Right!

That is where Google Alerts comes into play.

Google Alerts is a free tool from Google (obviously), and can be used to help track not only the personal branding of your own name, but keywords you want to rank for, other people that are using your key words and key phrases, and even specific sites that are using key words you want to keep track of.

So I created this little video on how I use Google Alerts in my blog marketing strategy and SEO strategy, how I keep an eye on my competition, and how you can learn to do the same thing in your on blog marketing strategy and content/SEO efforts.

    Hey Linus,
Excellent strategy for keeping track of who else you are competing against. Many marketers don’t take the time to see what others are doing in their niche, so they get depressed when they fail to rank well for their keyword. Being able to “look” over their shoulder gives the new marketer a chance to achieve that top ranking.

Keep spreading your wealth of marketing knowledge. I appreciate the insights.

    To Your Continued Success,
    Bill

    Bill,

Thanks for commenting! The cool part is that right after I posted that video, I got a message from Google Alerts the next morning, and it was for the answers.yahoo.com site giving a listing for one of my keywords. I was able to get in right away and post the first answer to his question which of course leads them right back here to my blog.

    Working well so far!

Hi Linus, Great blog and website. Love the info you share. Love the ease in navigating your website. Can I ask (since I am very new to this internet marketing world) What server have you set your blog up with? Or did you build this site yourself?
    Thanks so much,
    Rachel E.

Thanks for commenting Rachel. I have my blog hosted with Gutz media. Holly Powell is the individual responsible for that portion. Send me an e-mail and I can get you in touch with her.

As far as building the site, I outsourced that almost a year ago. I can get you in touch with the wizard that created the design for me. But the overall feel, flow, and content is all me! :)

    Right on again Linus!

You really do need to be following the competition. You have given me some great tools in your last few blog posts that I am now using. Thanks for reminding me of an easy way to do that.

You know as well as the rest, Bert, that it’s one thing to have the tool, and it’s another thing to actually use it. I simply put it out there, others get the decision of it they want to use it or not. You are an example of someone who not only has the tools, but uses them to his advantage!

That is why we’re having the success we are having!

    Yo,

Thanks brother! The biggest challenge with using google alerts for your keywords and your blog is actually keeping up with them! LOL I have to dedicate time to sit and look at each note, and then look if I can backlink with comments on each link. That takes some time at the beginning.

But the payoff is already starting, so I have NO room to complain ;)
