Remember back to being a kid for a moment:
The messy bedrooms…
Toys thrown all around…
Snack plates left around your room…
Yup – that was me! Admit it – you were there too.
Admit it, your blog looks that way too!
(o.k. maybe not yours, but mine felt that way – especially the comments).
Which Area Is The Dirtiest?
You probably already have one area of your blog that looks like a dirty bedroom. For me, it was my comments section.
It was looking like a Twitter Feed. Comments were just showing up in the order they came to my blog from oldest to most recent which was fine -BUT, when I posted a reply, all of my reply comments were thrown down at the very bottom and looked like they were just extra blog comments.
They just never matched up with the original comment I was replying to.
Well thanks to Jason Better, I stumbled on a new widget that cleaned my comments section all up.
So Fresh and So Clean
It’s called ‘WordPress Thread Comment’. To install it, you can simply click on that link, or have WordPress install it automatically.
To do this, go to your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New > Search for “WordPress Thread Comment”. Click “Install” and there you go.
So now, when you look at the comments section below here, you’ll notice that my reply comments are threaded under the original comment that I replied to.
So thank you Jason for an awesome tip that has cleaned up my comment section.
WordPress Thread Comment vs. Disqus
Now, you’re probably asking, why don’t you just install Disqus?
Believe me, I tried!
But is SCREWED up the look of my blog. It actually ended up erasing all of the posts on my homepage.
Don’t ask me why. I can only assume that it has something to do with my theme – “Monezine”
I got a hold of my programmers and we simply had to kill the idea of having Disqus on my blog because it was messing with too much stuff.
So needless to say I was ecstatic to find the “WordPress Thread Comment” plugin to clean things up.
Leaving No Network Marketer Behind,

P.S. – Save A Brain – every time you “Share” this post on Facebook, you’re saving another blog marketers brain. It’s easy to do, just look for the little blue “Share” button on the top of this post and countless Neuro-surgeons across the country will thank you.

Hi Linus,
Thanks for the tip…good to know about WordPress Thread comment in case I am coaching someone and they run into the same problem. I can relate. Although Disqus works on mine, WP Greet Box doesn’t. If anyone has an “alternate” for that, let me know!
Hey, I appreciate the changes I see in your blog. It’s much easier to navigate now. You have so much good information, and now it is much easier to follow all your great wisdom!
Congrats on springcleaning your blog!

Dotti,
THanks for stopping by and commenting.
I have spent soem time over the last few weeks trying to get a little spring cleaning done on the blog – extra menu’s are gone, cleaned up some graphics, some colors, etc.
As far as the WP greet box, my only suggestion would be to do a search for it on the wordpress plugins page, and look at the alternate plugins that come up.
A lot of times you will find similar ones that work well.
God Bless,
Linus

That is great Linus. I was wondering why you had not added Discus, this is a great add on for you.

Linus,
You know your plugins my friend. My blog has been transformed from regular “run of the mill” to sleek, smart and hip due, in part, to all your plugins advice.
I look forward to more of your blog advice.
Cheers,

Hey Linus;
This is great to know, I’m experiencing the same issue with my comment section, and it does look a little out of place when you respond to that specific person. I will add my plugin right now

Hey Linus,
I agree with Bert. You have a way of finding all of these neat plug-ins. Now I just have to find the time to “plug them all in”. making these changes does have a HUGE impact on the look of your blog.
Keep posting great tips like this and I will have to keep coming back.
To Your Continued Success,

Palte,
You know you can’t stay away!
But you’re right…the application of the right plugins not only helps with SEO on the search engines, but there is the human element also.
The more graphically appealing your blog looks, the better it is for reading.
What theme are you using on your blog?

Linus,
I’m glad that you cleaned up your pigsty.
I think Disqus is a great option right out of the gate when putting your together. I’ve heard it’s a real “nightmare” when trying to convert from the default commenting to Disqus.
Nowadays, there is a plug-in that solves just about every problem you can think of when it comes to blogging… and that is why I heart plug-ins!

Yo,
Glad you were able to save your brain. You never know when we might need more of them around here?
But you’re right…starting off with basic commenting status and THEN converting over to Disqus is a pain that I DID NOT want to go though.
I’m happy that I found this new plugin.

Hi Linus,
great extra plugin, thanks – I’mnot (yet) up to enough comments for it to be such a problem
but my theory is, get good habits in place now while I can!!
Also LOVE the PS statement… may use that idea myself
best wishes

(By the way : I noticed the plugin is only tested to WP version 2.7.x – what version of WordPress are you using it on now?
thanks,
Tracey)

Kevin and Amber,
You won’t be disappointed. For my theme, it is much easier to use this plugin rather than the more popular Disqus plugin as it sent my blogformat into a spastic fit when I tried to install the Disqus plugin.
Also, thanks for stopping by and commenting…I love the following!

I was wondering about Disqus myself, and then you go and tell me why… it was like you were reading my mind man. I’m sure a lot of people are happy with this post, because I too had issues with Disqus at one point.
Thanks for sharing.

Great post Linus,
I am glad that you have gotten round to tidying things up. I am in a similar process of reordering some sections so at the minute until I sort it out I have duplicate posts.
It will take time to do right but I am determined. Thank you for the reminder.
