One of those weeks that just doesn’t fit into what you’re used to?
Not that I am a negative person in any sense of the word. I am quite opposite. I THRIVE on positivity and creativity. I practice the Law of Attraction myself.
Now, whether you believe in the Law of Attraction, serendipity, chance, or just odd-ball chances, this last week was an odd one for me.
2 weeks ago I received 4 e-mails from PayPal stating that “Your money transactions are comple.” They said that I tried to wire $3,125 spread out to 4 different e-mail messages. Hmmm…that’s funny. I don’t remember doing that…
Oh, here’s the jolly tidbit. Apparently Paypal has an automated tool in their system that if any transaction is not completed in full (ex. not getting the full $3125 in the transaction) AND if you have a secondary bank account, they automatically reapply the remainder of the transactions against your other account 3 days later. Yeah, I found that out the hard way too.
Long story short, I had to cancel 2 different debit-cards from my banks, close one account entirely, change all of my membership site payments, etc.
I knew I would be getting my money back, so I wasn’t worried about that. It was just a HUGE pain in the ass doing all of this extra footwork, phone calling, and paper work that I didn’t plan on.
But, through the storm is a bright point that I get to pass along to you. If you do have a Paypal account, there are some things you should do to make sure this problem doesn’t happen to you.
- Do not list your bank account on Paypal. To be a “verified” buyer on Ebay, they suggest you verify your bank account. In reality, no! Don’t do it. If you have your account listed already, delete it. You should only have a credit card listed to transfer money thorough. Since I had my account verified on Paypal, that is how the hackers transferred money from my account to theirs.
- The credit card you have listed should only be an online account. Think of it like a second account that money from your primary account goes into when you make a transaction on Paypal. Money gets transferred from “Primary Account A” to “Online Account B” then into Paypal. This eliminates your primary account from even touching the internet.
- Sign-up for a Security Key. There are 2 forms of this. You can sign-up to have PayPal text message you a random 6 digit code to only YOUR cell phone each time you try to log on. This prevents someone from hacking into your account (which happened to me). You then enter that 6 digit code into Paypal after you receive it. Or you can purchase for $5 a security key to be shipped to you and keep in on you. Each time you log-in to Paypal, hit the button on the security key, it will generate a random 6-digit code, and you enter it into Paypal to log-in. Only YOU will have access to that code. You can sign-up for it my doing a search on Paypal for “SecurityKey.”
I wanted to let you all know what I experienced so you don’t befall the same non-sense I had to go through. If you have any more questions, be sure to drop me a message or look at the security features that your Paypal account has listed.
