How To Connect Your Blog To Your Facebook Fan Page

Posted by Linus Ruzicka On February - 27 - 2010

It’s So Easy, A Network Marketer Could Do It

So this was a simple post – after my wife introduced me to it!  She’s the one that showed me how to connect your blog to your facebook fan page.

So I’m going to send her a shameless promo here and have you visit The Couponess.com to give her a little “traffic love.”

But really, this is a simple thing to do, as my tutorial video shows above here.  (If for some reason you can’t see the video, here is the direct link on Youtube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMXikGO_RQM).

What I was Missing

I have a Facebook profile page that is already linked to my blog through my feed system so my blog posts show up there – but my friend count is already getting up into the 3000′s, so I knew I needed to start looking at building a fan page soon with the idea of building my contact list larger on Facebook.

I also have “The Official Linus Ruzicka” group page on Facebook as well, and have been using that as an accessory site to build a relationship with people, but the downside to a Facebook Group is that you have to manually insert your blog posts.

And I was not able to find an option to add your blog feed to your Facebook Group automatically as you create a post on your blog.

You can create discussions, add events, videos, and everything else that the Facebook fan page has – except – the “Notes” tab, which will allow your blog feed to auto-post into your facebook fan page.

If there was a way to automate things and make it easier, then I’m all for it.

My Dilema

What started all of this is that my wife was tired of having to copy and paste the content from her main Facebook profile page into her fan page.

She wanted to add her blog feed to her Facebook fan page.  So she started hunting around, and discovered the process I talked about in the video at the top of the page.

I have to admit, I was tired of doing the same thing between my profile and my Facebook group.

My first thought was to go and double check my Facebook Group – and sure enough, I couldn’t find any connection to add my blog feed to my facebook group.

Bummer!

I had already spent over a year building my Facebook Group, so I was torn if I wanted to go to the effort of building a fan page just so I could connect my blog to my facebook fan page.

So, to automate as much as I could, I decided it would be best to create a new Facebook Fan Page to allow my blog to connect to the Fan page.

The part I’m working on now is adding new friends and building my list on my Facebook Fan page.

The “List”

So it dawned on me, keep my Facebook group as it is, and use my new Facebook Fan page as a new “List” to build a relationship and contact with.

So I will be building my fan page with that design in mind.

When you look at my Facebook account – I now have my regular profile, my Facebook group, and now I have a Facebook fan page connected to my blog posts.

I think I’m pretty well maxed out for my account.

So, if you have any ideas of how to connect your blog to your Facebook account, I’d like you to leave a comment here so that others can learn from it as well.

P.S. Tweet MeMe Up – If you like this blog post then share it with your Twitter buddies too. It’s really easy to do, just look for the little green “retweet” button at the top of this post. It’s definitely appreciated.

This is an excellent training. I want to implement this but my profile on Facebook only works about 1 out 10 attempts. Once I get that straight I will be using this method.

    Hey Linus,
Interesting post. I am getting close to the FB Fan page status also so I am quite interested in getting the connection right. It looks much easier doing it from the start but there HAS to be a way to connect existing pages. I will keep my eyes open for you.

    Thanks for the great post.

    Bill,

Thanks for the comment. I knew that once I was hitting 3000+ I would need to start looking at a Fan Page. It only makes sense given the high counts we can reach in social networking.

What pages were you looking at connecting together?

How did you get the Twitter/retweet button with your posts on your fan page? I have one for my blog, but it doesn’t affect the feed to the fan page.

    [Reply]

    Linus Ruzicka Reply:

    Cynthia,

The ReTweet Button that shows up on my Fanpage is all part of the Feedburner portion that links my blog to my Fanpage.

I’m not sure how it happened, but it just showed up on my own fanpage after I made the connection.

Do you have the feed burner set up?

  20. Linus,
Yes, I used my Feedburner URL. There are two things I’m going to check. First, I’m using the Topsy re-Tweet plug-in, while you are using the one from Tweetmeme. So, either the Topsy plug-in has a setting I need to change — probably for being included in an RSS feed — or it doesn’t have a setting that Tweetmeme DOES have. If it’s the latter, I have to switch to the Tweetmeme plug-in. I’m thinking of doing that anyway since the Topsy plug-in is a different size than my Facebook share plug-in and when I look on pages where the two match in size, the re-Tweet plug-in is for Tweetmeme. But I would love to figure out if there’s another way people are controlling the size of those buttons.

Second, it might be I need to change a setting for my RSS feed so it would include the re-Tweet button.

By the way, if you figure it out, it would be awesome if you re-do your video to include that explanation.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Cynthia

    [Reply]

  21. OK, I think the answer is that the Tweetmeme re-Tweet plug-in for WordPress gives you setting controls that the Topsy re-Tweet button does not. For example, I just downloaded and activated the Tweetmeme re-Tweet plug-in, and it has installed a settings button in the left column of my WordPress dashboard. It gives me the option of having the button included in my RSS feed — I think that’s the key. It also seems to be written to match the Facebook Share plug-in, which also installs a settings button in the left column of the dashboard. The Topsy re-Tweet plug-in did not install a settings button, so there’s no easy way to include it in an RSS feed, which is what is sending the blog posts to the fan page.

No one has a YouTube video explaining this yet, so you would get the top position if you made one. Hint, hint.

    [Reply]

  22. In my comment above, “it gives me the option of having the button included in my RSS feed” means the Tweetmeme re-Tweet button, just like in your video.

    [Reply]

    Linus Ruzicka Reply:

    Cynthia,

Awesome you found the solution. I knew it had to do either with the RSS feed OR something with TweetMeMe.

Either case, it sounds like you solved your issue with the button.

    Linus Ruzicka

p.s. – I will certainly take a look at creating a video on the connecting of the button with a persons Facebook fan page.

Forgive my lack of proper lingo and technical terms.

Ok. So, all I did when choosing to add my blog was type in http://www.oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/feeds

Right? “Feeds” will work? I mean, if I use feedburner don’t I need something more?

    Amy I making sense?

  26. Hey Linus,

That was a valuable post. I didn’t know you can import your blog that well. I use an application called NetworkedBlogs which you can set up to import your blog to your regular profile and fan page. It also allows you to invite people to check out your blog, although you can only invite 12 at a time. Thanks for sharing this information!!

Yes, I also use Networked blogs.

But for folks that aren’t aware of this app. This tutorial will work just fine for connecting them all.

    God Bless,
