Looking for that elusive Secret Ingredient to creating a successful blog huh??
I understand.
You just want to make your blog a successful and popular blog.
You wouldn’t be doing this if you didn’t want your blog to be popular.
Help Wanted?
If you’re looking for someone to help you, there isn’t anything wrong with looking at other peoples blogs, trying to learn something…simply trying to follow the steps of someone who has what you want.
Could I be so bold as to say that’s why your reading my blog today?
Don’t assume that my goals are the same as your goals, even if I have the numbers you would like to have.
I know that I will post as often as functionally possible, and I will do it because I love it!
…and I will be as helpful and as generous to you as possible…
Dumb Luck
When you take a look at those that have had success, many people – me included – simply think that the success they have had is the end result of some grand plan.
For some folks, it’s simply dumb luck.
All I’m saying is that when you look at your blog and compare it to someone else’s blog, keep in mind that there are a lot of variables that go into that “success.”
The Secret Ingredient To Creating a Successful Blog
Isn’t it easier if someone else has the answer instead of looking for the answer yourself?
You bet it is!
We want other people to have the answers. We want someone who’s already poured out their hard work and efforts to have come up with the answers for us.
We want someone who will shorten our learning curve.
As people, we also like to give authority and credibility to other people.
Sometimes it will create a brilliant coach or mentor who is worth every penny.
I have no doubt that if I had hired Jim Rohn and I had a plan, he would have helped me execute it.
But on the flip-side, sometimes our need for answers spawns a “guru” who is only looking out for himself and would rather get to know our wallet instead of us.
Which finally leads me to why you’re reading this blog post in the first place…
So What Should We Do To Create a Better Blog?
Here’s how I see things:
First, if you run across a guru who says “I can teach you to love writing blog posts,” or “I can help you to write like a professional,” then there is only one quick and decisive move - a perfectly timed throat-strike – and then run like you’ve been shot out of a cannon.
Look, it’s great and ADVISABLE to get help when you need it. But if you’re expecting someone to do all of the thinking and hard work for you – you’re better off sticking with your day J-O-B and forget about it.
In conjunction, anyone that tells you that they will do all that you’re EXPECTANTLY looking for – they’re blowing smoke up your….um, backside.
Second, and most important, no matter how much advice you seek or get along the way, there is really only one secret ingredient to a successful blog recipe.
And that secret ingredient is you.
You’re the one who determines the content, the posting schedule, the flow, the information, and of course the marketing of your blog posts.
You are the secret ingredient that you’ve been looking for this entire time.
You are the one who is solely responsible. Not your mentor, not your mastermind group, not your business partners.
You and only you.

Hey Linus,
You got it right.
“YOU” indeed are the magic that makes people pay attention.
This is a great post that the majority of marketers need to read. This extends beyond blogging to everything that we do with our businesses… and actually to all of life. So many people try to copy everyone instead of being themselves. I believe if each person would follow their heart in their marketing, they would be successful in their businesses.
Keep posting info like this & I will keep coming back.

Palte,
That is my attempt here – trying to blaze a new trail, but still keeping true to the training and marketing success that others have had before me.
Duplication with individuality brother!
God Bless,
Linus

Linus that is a great lesson. It is not always easy to write a post, but it is a good skill building task. It not only teaches the people you are writing the blog for, but it also teaches the writer and helps to build that skill,

Kathy,
This business is truly about educating yourself and realizing that that educational process will never end.

Hey Linus,
Great post. Most people don’t understand that THEY are responsible for their own success or failure. You can follow others examples but you still have to do your own thing. Love your comment about people offering to “help” you…so true.
Keep posting great info like this & I will keep coming back.

Bill,
It took me some time to realize that since this is a business – no one is going to help me. I am the only one that can help myself. Find a strategy that works, stick with it, be consistent, and you will reap the rewards in the end.

Linus

Linus,
You sure come along way.Back then when we were both lazy to get our blogs up and running, now fast forward a year or so and you are rocking my friend.I have to agree “Secret Ingredient” is always “You Inc” and there’s no way around it….

Carlos,
Oh, the memories!
You, Inc is what our game is about. Once you gain that individuality, there is no turning back. You now have not only a business to run, but a business that depends all about you, your name, and your value.
Great comment brother!

Great Post! “But if you’re expecting someone to do all of the thinking and hard work for you – you’re better off sticking with your day J-O-B and forget about it.” For me this is the quote that says it all.

Absolutely Linus…we are all being told to “brand” ourselves. What better way to achieve this than by simply being yourself on your own blog?
Why do so many bloggers try and be something they are not, it sticks out a mile?
We are in the business of creating networks of friends. How do you behave when you have friends around to your home, any differently than when you bump in to them in the mall? I doubt it…so why behave differently when they visit you on your blog?
Just be you…

Michael,
thanks for stopping by to comment.
Awesome insight with your comment – It really should make you stand out. That is one of my goals with my blog here.
I see this year as a year that a lot of the “crap” you see online is going to sink to the bottom and all of the “cream” is going to float to the top. being honest and forthright is an appealing force online today.

Right on again Linus!
I run away from anyone that says they will “do the work” for you.
That is just a farce at best.
Be yourself and write, and you will get better and better each time.
Don’t be something your not of course.
Thanks Bro,
~Bert

Bert,
LOL…no kidding! Anyone that says they will build your downline, build your webpage for free, etc., etc, is completely blowing smoke….well, somewhere you don’t want it.
Being yourself will come through in your posts if you take the time to do your own work and let it just come through.
If people don’t like you for who you are and what you’re writing, then that is their problem. You still need to be yourself.
God Bless,
Linus

Hey Linus;
As a new internet marketer I have had moments where I want to throw my computer out the window!, with all the new information that I’m being overloaded with lol. I have to say that blogging has been a great experience to me and I really want to explode it as much as I possibly can, and with this post you made it more than clear, that it’s all up to us to make it happen

You’re honesty is awesome!
I have been keeping an eye on your blog and if you keep coming up with your own content and providing the same value that you have been doing, then you will be off and running as well.
Keep up the great work and “YOU, Inc.” will shine through.

Linus,
Before I comment on this post, I just wanted to point out one thing first… You’re Alexa score is now better then Bob’s!
I agree with you 110%! People will visit your blog for a reason, and that reason is what’s going to make you stand out to them. It could be your style of writing, the valuable content you provide, or simply because they look up to you.
The “secret” is really over-rated. All it is is hard work, commitment, and consistency.
Awesome my friend!

Yo,
Bob who?
Just kidding of course. Bob is very busy with his own ventures and I completely respect what he’s doing – and am even more appreciative that you compare my blog to his. It is an honor.
Just sitting in the first Live Seattle MLSP event today reiterates that fact that there is really no secret – it is simply hard work, commitment, and consistency. A term I always like to say is to be “constantly consistent.”
